Calling all young soldiers! Are you a Roundhead or a Cavalier? Find out which side you would have supported and what life was life as a soldier during the English Civil War.

Take part in our fun activities this half term!

 

Civil War Hunt

Every day, 10am-4pm

Explore the permanent displays in the museum and discover more about the Civil War through the objects in the collection. Pick up your free trail sheet from the Welcome Desk.

 

Crafty Roundheads and Cavaliers!

Tuesday 13 and Saturday 17 February, 10am-3.30pm

Drop in throughout the day and make Civil War-themed arts and crafts to take home.

 

Hands On History

Wednesday 14 and Sunday 18 February, 10am-3.30pm

Handle replicas of Civil War-era objects, including a helmet, buff leather coat and other pieces of soldiers’ equipment.

 

Newcastle Garrison Living History Group

Thursday 15 and Friday 16 February, 10am-3.30pm

Find out what life was like in the North East of England and Scottish Borders during the mid-17th Century and the Wars of the Three Kingdoms (British Civil Wars). This turbulent period will be brought to life through small scale re-enactments and historical interpretation activities, living history demonstrations and talks.

 

10.45am-11am – Musket Demonstration

11.30am-12 noon – Dressing a Woman of the Middling Sort

12.15pm-12.45pm – Pike Demonstration and Junior Pike Class

1.15pm-1.30pm – Musket Demonstration

2pm-2.30pm – Dressing a Woman of the Middling Sort

2.45pm-3.15pm – Pike Demonstration and Junior Pike Class
