Talk: ‘No 1’ – the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway

Join local historian, Tony Fox as he reads an extract from Tony Stowers' new book, 'No.1'.

Set in Regency England, No.1 by Tony Stowers, draws on the real and the imagined, blending actual events relating to the Stockton and Darlington railway with fiction. The novel takes us on a series of journeys across the North East of England, finally finishing at the dockside in Stockton-on-Tees on 28 September 1825, the day after the celebrations of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. No.1 is historical fiction unlike any other work, adding to and enriching the history of a significant local and national event.

Tony Fox, who has a personal connection to the Stockton and Darlington railway, will also highlight aspects of the story which have particular poignancy to himself and to our area.
