The project is being delivered through The Stockton Northern Gateway Townscape Heritage Project which is a £2.9million scheme that is joint funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

The project aims to improve the historic environment to the Conservation Area at the northern end of Stockton High Street, covering from Regent Street, up Norton Road to Queen Street. A priority within the scheme is delivering an engagement programme raising awareness of the heritage of the area and the importance of traditional heritage skills. It forms part of the Council's programme to reshape Stockton Town Centre.
