Lost and Found: The McLaren Diaries of Thorpe Thewles
Join Thewles History Group for the film screening of its brand‑new documentary, Lost and Found - The McLaren Diaries of Thorpe Thewles.
Made with Lonely Tower Film & Media, this 83‑minute film tells the remarkable true story of three handwritten diaries rescued from a car boot sale and later discovered to belong to local teenager David McLaren.
The documentary follows the journey from their surprising find in 2010 to today's full transcription and research, made possible through National Heritage Lottery funding. David's diaries offer a lively and personal look at life in Thorpe Thewles before the First World War—full of everyday life, local gossip, major news events and a young man's hopes for the future.
The screning also celebrates the upcoming release of selected diary transcriptions, which will be shared free with libraries and heritage organisations.
